An Evening Routine

 A.C.Pike

Introduction

Just like with a morning routine, every Christian needs to develop a good evening routine before they retire for the night. This should also consist of Bible Readings, Prayer and Psalm Singing.

Bible Readings

I follow an evening Bible reading plan. The one that is found in the back of the Trinitarian Bible Society's Bibles. This program, just like the morning one takes two years to cover the entire Bible.

I find that reading the Bible at night allows me to reflect upon God's word and what I have done or should have done through the course of the day.

Psalm Singing

I try to sing a Psalm at night time to help me ponder upon words of God. Just like in the morning, I use the 1650 Metric psalter.

Prayer

I find that the best way to end the day is in the way that I started it by praying to my heavenly Father.

I pray for forgiveness of sins, protection upon my family and friends and for Christians around the world.

Study Aids

I normally read and meditate upon an Evening Devotion. I tend to do this before my night-time prayers.

A Morning Routine

Introduction

Every Christian needs to develop a good morning routine. This should consist of (at the very least), prayer, Bible readings and Psalm singing.

Prayer

We should pray to our heavenly Father in the name of Jesus (Matthew 6:9 & John 14:13). Asking for forgiveness of our sins (Matthew 6:12). As we ask our heavenly Father to provide us with our needs (Matthew 6:11) we should also thank God for all and everything that he has given us (Colossians 4:2)

Bible Reading

I find that following a daily reading plan to be spiritually beneficial.

I am currently going through a two-year Bible reading plan that involves reading a chapter (or two) of the Old Testament in the Morning and a chapter of the New Testament in the Evening. This daily reading plan can be located in the back of the Authorised Version of the Bible produced by the TBS.

Psalm Singing

I aim to sing a Psalm on the morning after my prayers and Bible readings. What's good about the 1650 Metric Psalms is that because it is in 'Metric' form, it can be sang in Accapella (without the aid of musical instruments) which means that you can sing it anywhere at anytime.

Extra (Study Aid)

A Bible Commentary is a good resource to add to your daily Bible reading plan. It helps explain and expound upon the text of Scripture that you are reading.

If you are new to Bible Commentaries, then I recommend using Matthew Henry's Bible Commentary that can be found over on Studylight (please find a link to this over on the 'Resource' section of this website.)

The Lord's Prayer

 A.C.Pike

Introduction

The Lord's Prayer is a model prayer that the Lord Jesus Christ gave unto his Disciples and Church.

It is a prayer that instructs us on who to pray to and what to pray for.

In this article, I will go through (step by step) our Lord's Prayer.

The Lord's Prayer

Here is the Lord's Prayer as found in the Authorised Version of the Bible:

"Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. They kingdom come. They will be done, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen" (Matthew 6:9-13 AV).

This is the model prayer that our Lord gave us.

9) In verse six were are commanded to pray to the Father - "Our Father" and we are to revere his name as Holy - "Hallowed be thy name."

10) We are to pray for God's Kingdom to come - "They kingdom come." Then we ask God for his "will be done" upon the "earth" just like his will is done "in heaven."

11) We are to pray to God for our daily needs. The words "give us our daily bread" means to ask our loving and merciful creator to provide us with our daily needs - food and water.

12) We are to petition a gracious and merciful Father to forgive us of our sins. We ask "Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors." As God fives us, we are to be forgiving to others and forgive them of their sins.

13) God who is holy doesn't "lead us into temptation." He puts us on the path righteousness. We petition him to "deliver us from evil." It is God's power that deliver us from the Devil and his temptations.

14) The Kingdom and all of it's power belongs to God who is the supreme ruler of the heavens and earth and the Almighty creator.

Conclusion

The Lord's Prayer is a model prayer that our Lord gave us to show us how to pray and what to pray for.
