Introduction
The Lord's Prayer is a model prayer that the Lord Jesus Christ gave unto his Disciples and Church.
It is a prayer that instructs us on who to pray to and what to pray for.
In this article, I will go through (step by step) our Lord's Prayer.
The Lord's Prayer
Here is the Lord's Prayer as found in the Authorised Version of the Bible:
"Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. They kingdom come. They will be done, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen" (Matthew 6:9-13 AV).
This is the model prayer that our Lord gave us.
9) In verse six were are commanded to pray to the Father - "Our Father" and we are to revere his name as Holy - "Hallowed be thy name."
10) We are to pray for God's Kingdom to come - "They kingdom come." Then we ask God for his "will be done" upon the "earth" just like his will is done "in heaven."
11) We are to pray to God for our daily needs. The words "give us our daily bread" means to ask our loving and merciful creator to provide us with our daily needs - food and water.
12) We are to petition a gracious and merciful Father to forgive us of our sins. We ask "Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors." As God fives us, we are to be forgiving to others and forgive them of their sins.
13) God who is holy doesn't "lead us into temptation." He puts us on the path righteousness. We petition him to "deliver us from evil." It is God's power that deliver us from the Devil and his temptations.
14) The Kingdom and all of it's power belongs to God who is the supreme ruler of the heavens and earth and the Almighty creator.
Conclusion
The Lord's Prayer is a model prayer that our Lord gave us to show us how to pray and what to pray for.
