Introduction
In this article I am going to layout the three main characteristic marks of a true church. These three marks are:
One) Sound biblical doctrines and beliefs through the correct handling/preaching and teaching of the word of God.
Two) The correct administration of the sacraments/ordinances by an ordained minister.
Three) The biblical administration of reproving and disciplinary measures with the aim of readjusting a brother in the love of the Lord and keeping the Church clean.
One) Sound Biblical Doctrines and Beliefs
The first identifying mark of a true Church is the handling of God's word the Bible. A true Church will teach and preach sound biblical doctrines and practices.
Two) The Correct Administration of the Sacraments/Ordinances
The second mark of a true Church is handling the Sacraments correctly. This involves the correct laying out of the Lord's Table (one cup of red wine and one piece of unleavened bread). Careful prayer and meditation before administering of the Sacraments. Fenced communion so that only Christians in good standing can partake of the elements.
Three) The Biblical Administration of Reproving and Disciplinary Measures
The third mark of a true Church is biblical discipline. This should be based upon biblical principles and administered in love with the main objective of readjusting your brother in the hope that they repent and turn to the Lord. The other reason being that the Church should be kept clean so that the Church and it's members are pure and offering pure worship to the Lord.
Conclusion
Any church that professes to be a biblical church will practice ALL three of these identifying marks. If a church does-not practice these three marks, then they are not a sound biblical church.
